    Facilities
APPA-NI is based at its newly developed, specialist physical arts centre in Castlereagh, Belfast. Meticulously designed and finished to the highest of standards, there is no other facility of its type in Northern Ireland.

The Dance Studio houses a 13.5m x 17m Harlequin sprung floor - the newest of its kind in Northern Ireland. The room's high ceiling, mirrors, barres, music centre and Piano means it can facilitate dance and displays of any standard.

Our 14m x 14m Rhythmic Floor is of continental high performance and is dressed in a low friction carpet on a sprung sub-base, providing high quality cushioning and rebound for students and performers.

The 14.5m x 15m Aerial Space facilitates six suspended training units. These include three silks, one rope, a four person trapeze and one hoop / lyra. The considered design of the aerial space means training can be undertaken and overseen in the safest possible physical environment.

The Airtrack and Acrobatic area is 9m x 14.5m.

    Dance
The art form of dance provides the potential for expression through movement. Its use of nonverbal communication allows dance to give learners the opportunity to participate in a way that is different from any other area of conventional learning.

Ballet is the oldest devised dance technique and it requires years of training to learn and master, with considerable practice required to retain proficiency and skill. Ballet develops alignment, coordination, musicality, strength, flexibility and refined elegance in movement and it is a fundamental technique in the training of a dancer.

Street dance is a merging of various dance forms mixing diverse components from many different dance styles including hip hop popping, locking and break dancing to elements of jazz, contemporary and commercial dance making it into a very fast, physical, funky and motivating form of dance. APPA-NI's fully equipped Dance Studio facilitates teaching, learning and performing in a range of dance disciplines at all levels and abilities.

    Gymnastics
Rhythmic gymnastics is a sport that combines elements of ballet, gymnastics and dance with apparatus handling. Gymnasts work with rope, hoop, ball, clubs and ribbon alongside developing the skills required for body strength, flexibility, balance and coordination. Musicality is developed through devised sequences showing body rotations, balances and elevated leaps which combine grace, coordination, agility and artistry.

APPA-NI's Continental high performance Rhythmic Floor allows staff to provide training and artists to perform in a professional and comfortable environment.

    Acrobatics
Acrobatic gymnastics develops the art of balance. It combines strength, flexibility and technical precision of gymnastics with the grace and musicality of dance alongside the trust and camaraderie of learner partnership.

Tumbling is characterised by swift and rhythmical succession of acrobatic bounding from hands to feet, feet to hands or feet directly back onto feet. Tumbling is the perfect sport for those looking for a fast paced and daring challenge.

APPA-NI's high-spec Airtrack provides learners and performers with the opportunity to master the art of Tumbling in a comfortable, modern and safe environment.

    Aerial Dance
Aerial Dance / Movement incorporates apparatus attached to the ceiling, allowing performers to explore space in three-dimensions through specific skill training of three person trapeze, aerial hoop, rope and silks. The ability to incorporate vertical, as well as horizontal movement paths allows for inspired uniqueness and advances in choreography and movement vocabulary.

APPA-NI's high-standard, state-of-the-art Aerial Space ensures the safest possible training environment for students and staff alike.

    Pre-School Classes
    Mini-movers
A 45 minute combined gymnastic movement and dance class designed for young children with no or little previous dance experience. Young children will develop self-confidence and enhance their physical capabilities including motor skills, hand/eye coordination, flexibility and spatial awareness. The curriculum aims to stimulate and encourage young children's natural agility while exploring aspects of dance and gymnastic movement.

    Ballet
A 45 minute ballet class designed for young children with no or little previous dance experience. Young children will develop and progress basic ballet skills through shape making, special awareness, quality of movement and guided creative and imaginative exercises. The curriculum aims to inspire and nurture young children's natural delight of movement and freedom of expression whilst encouraging good posture and dexterity.

    Pilates
Pilates exercises have an emphasis on posture, strength, and flexibility - all three are essential components for a good physical arts performer. The use of Pilates results in a strengthening of the upper body that enhances a performer's balance, alignment of body parts, better posture while still or moving, and other spinal muscle alignments. Pilates exercises are also good for lower body parts like the ankles and feet that play a key role in any form of physical arts.

Teachers or coaches will often recommend Pilates exercises to physical performers to help them improve their balance, muscles, movements, and body-parts coordination.

APPA-NI's Pilates instructor provides structured classes for students of all ages and ability. Our Pilates classes are taken by our on-site Physiotherapist. For information on class times and scheduling, please see APPA-NI's calendar.
