- Hello, my name is Kate and I am a practitioner of Holistic Therapeutic Massage. My aim is to help you to 'Feel at Home in Your Body,' through gentle yet effective treatment providing pain relief, stress reduction and trauma repair. I believe that every client has a unique story and therefore no two treatments are the same, however I tend to use a combination of swedish massage, fascial release and energy work to bring your body and mind into a state of rest and wellbeing.
To begin each session is a consultation to assess your needs and state of health at that time, and following the bodywork I offer some aftercare to help you gain the most from your treatment, which lasts the full hour. I hope that afterwards you will feel a deep sense of relaxation, and that any problem areas have been focused on leaving you with a sense of greater physical health and uplifted emotionally.
How I like to work...
My approach to healing is quite intuitive: I like to do a lot of research about techniques and symptoms, and incorporate these into a responsive treatment. There are some things that will remain constant: I always aim to treat the client's whole body, so I would never spend a whole hour just on one arm for example. I will always aim to put my client into a state of relaxation, as this is the best way to fight illness: to create space in their body for healing to happen. In a practical sense, this means stretching out where things are tight; gently rocking the body to shake off patterns of trauma; and introducing movement into rigid joints by encouraging limbs to be freer and escape restrictive patterns. I use my hands to explore the fascial tissue looking for energy points that need releasing, again this is done gently, without pressure or intrusion. My intention is to 'reprogramme' the body into a state of wellbeing.
Where muscle work is needed I look to release tension with the aim of relieving pain, not causing further injury! Clearing adhesions in the fascia first is important, as it covers and protects the muscle, so I work through this first and then carefully down through the layers of muscle. Old injuries and trauma can be as buried as a treasure chest at the bottom of the ocean, and hoiking them straight up to the surface isn't always helpful, emotionally or physically. All pain can teach us something, but only if we treat it with respect.
Each treatment is different, as every person's needs are individual and also change from day to day. Communication is very important to me and I am always working towards building clear and comfortable patterns of exchange because this builds trust.
And finally, every day's a school day! I am always learning something new and I look forward to meeting new clients because the people I treat are also my teachers. If there is something I don't know, I will go and find out.
If you want to discuss a strategy to build up your health, please contact me by email, phonecall or drop me a text.
"Feel at Home in Your Body!"
I qualified in 2008 from Edinburgh Holistic School with a diploma from the Massage Training Institute. Since then I have worked with a range of clients, including two years at a clinic for people diagnosed with Hepatitis C. My professional development includes training in Indian Head Massage, Native American Narrative Medicine and Myofascial Release (MFR); and my own personal study of the power of herbs has been ongoing for several years. My most recent training has been with Liz Arundel studying Shin Tai Shiatsu, a gentle yet powerful technique, that like MFR works with the fascia and has a profound effect on the body. I firmly believe that a deep connection to nature is the most effective resource for healing and I channel this energy into all of my treatments.
I very much enjoy my work and aim to make it accessible to all. My costs are £30 for an hour. I can give an effective treatment in this time, treating the whole body and focusing on one or two specific issues. A few minutes longer allows me to give a more in depth, top to toe treatment: if you would like 75 minutes I charge £35, or 90 minutes for £40.
If you would like to book with a partner or friend at the same address, I can offer a discounted price of £50 for two 1 hour treatments.
I feel that chronic conditions benefit from a course of treatments, so I am offering a special price of £150 for 6 hour-long massages. If you are unemployed I can offer a concession, please just ask. I also offer gift vouchers and shorter sessions may be available.
