Here is an example of some of the work we carry out week in, week out.
Boiler make, model and type
Vaillant Ecotec Pro combi boiler
Boiler fault/s
Pressure gauge on boiler dropping to zero.
Description
We had a call from a customer in Scarborough, expressing that they were having to keep topping up their boiler due to the pressure dropping. Most notably overnight, whereby the next morning they had to top up the boiler.
Boiler fault find and diagnosis
Upon checking the PRV (pressure relief valve) outlet pipe, it was noticeable that there was a consistent drip from the PRV inside the boiler. To fix this problem a replacement PRV in accordance to manufacturer’s instructions would need to be fitted.
Repair carried out
We ordered a new genuine Vaillant PRV from our reputable plumbing and heating merchants to fit the model of the boiler. Fortunately, the part was in stock and we could make the repair the same day. The new part worked perfectly and the boiler could be repressurised without any leaks from the PRV. Another successful repair from Boilers Direct and a happy customer.

Here is another example of some of the work we carry out week in, week out.
Boiler make, model and type
Ideal Logic combi boiler
Boiler fault/s
Boiler was not firing up
Description
A customer living in Scarborough telephoned us and explained they were unable to get heating and hot water. There was power to the boiler and a fault code displayed as L and 2.
Boiler fault find and diagnosis
Following the fault find procedures in accordance to manufacturer’s instructions the diagnosis was made that a replacement spark generator was required.
Repair carried out
We ordered a new genuine Ideal spark generator from our reputable plumbing and heating merchants for the model of the boiler. Unfortunately, we could only get the part on next day delivery, so the customer was without heating and hot water for one night. The next day upon purchasing the replace spark generator, the faulty part was replaced. After resetting the boiler, the new spark generator worked and the boiler worked as normal, a successfully diagnosed repair.

Here is a third example of some of the work we carry out week in, week out.
Boiler make, model and type
Ideal Logic + combi boiler
Boiler fault/s
System not holding pressure. Topping up to 1 bar pressure, then quickly losing pressure, activating the low-pressure sensor on the boiler and preventing the boiler from operating.
Description
This is one of the most interesting repairs we’ve had, and just so happens to be on a new boiler we installed. So, what happened? We converted an old tank fed system to a sealed combi system. Something was causing the pressure to drop. Surely it wasn’t the new boiler?
Boiler fault find and diagnosis
When a sealed system does not hold pressure, the usual culprits are the expansion vessel, PRV or a leak on the central heating system. We discounted the expansion vessel and PRV which meant it had to be a leak on the system. After some detective work, and the lifting of floorboards we found the cause of the leak, a Magnaclean magnetic sludge filter, positioned below the floor!
Repair carried out
A magnetic filter should be accessible so when the boiler is serviced so too can be the filter. To this day we still don’t know why it was below the floor – not practical in the slightest. The solution was to drain down the system and remove the filter, soldering a straight length of copper pipe in place of it.
